Vermillion is the location of the Spirit Mound Historic Prairie, one of the few places where we know the exact location where Captains Lewis and Clark stood in 1804. As Captain William Clark wrote in his journal on August 25, 1804, ” ….from the top of this Mound we beheld a most butifull landscape; Numerous herds of buffalow were Seen feeding in various directions, the Plain to North N. W & N E extends without interuption as far as Can be Seen.” Vermillion is also home to the W.H.
